MIXTE-International Academy of Musical Creation
MIXTE is a training academy for composers and performers in mixed music practices, combining instrumental ensembles and electronic devices.
A laboratory for experimentation and support, this academy offers a place and a time where musicians surrounded by professionals from the world of music can meet, listen to each other, exchange ideas and create together.
MIXTE supports the emergence of new generations of performers and composers through personalized follow-up of composition projects, and a summer workshop dedicated to creation and interpretation.
For the third edition of MIXTE, a Call for Musical Creation is launched in March 2025. The winners will be accompanied by the Italian composer Giulia Lorusso and will benefit from regular meetings with Proxima Centauri performers during the 2025-2026 season in order to support their writing project. The world premieres of their works will take place at the MÀD Festival in November 2026 in the Bordeaux region.
MIXTE is also a summer academy that will take place in the city of Pau from 3 to 10 July 2026 , with the participation of the winning composers, joined by musicians, composers and performers selected following a Call for Composers and Performers launched at the beginning of 2026.
Alongside Giulia Lorusso and the musicians of Proxima Centauri, the saxophonist, dancer and improviser Yui Sakagoshi will be joining the team for this week's course.
Individual and group workshops, work in small groups, ‘cartes blanches’, seminars, conferences, introductory workshops for the general public and public concerts: MIXTE is a week of effervescence entirely dedicated to musical creation, open to the city and its inhabitants.
For over thirhy years, Proxima Centauri rewrites the codes of chamber music namely by integrating electro-acoustic as a full-fledged member of the formation. For over twenty years
Based in Bordeaux, it has formed an association to run a strong cultural season in the area, with a series of regular events aimed at the general public.
Among these events, the Proxima Centauri association is organizing the MÀD Festival which concludes every two years, the MIXTE Academy presents a world premiere of the works it has accompanied for over a year.
