CALL FOR MUSICAL CREATION COMPOSERS
In July 2026, the third edition of MIXTE, the International Academy of Musical Creation of Proxima Centauri.
MIXTE is an Academy created to train composers and interpreters who wish to discover and deepen the practice of mixed music that associates an instrumental ensemble and electronic set-up. Designed as a lab for experimenting, this academy offers a place where musicians in training along with professional scientists and musicians get to meet, listen to each other, exchange and create together.
MIXTE is a week of residency during which selected composers take part in workshops led by the Proxima Centauri musicians and guest composers. They will focus both on instrumental and computer and electronic experimenting and on artistic exchanges. In addition to the workshops, there will be sessions to present the pieces in public concerts.
For 2025-2026, academy participants will be accompanied by composer Giulia Lorusso.
For the purpose of this academy, a call for project is being opened to all composers seeking to create a bridge between music and technologies.
Five projects will be selected by a commission including composers and interpreters. The selected composers will have regular contacts with Giulia Lorusso and the Proxima Centauri musicians during the 2025-26 season to help them develop their writing project. They will then rehearse their piece with the Proxima Centauri ensemble and the guest composers during the week-long Academy, from 3rd to 10th July 2026 at the Conservatoire de Pau Béarn Pyrénées.
MIXTE is a partner of the MÀD Festival that takes place in November in the Bordeaux Metropolitan area. In 2026, a « young generation » stage during the MÀD Festival will present the selected pieces for a world premiere.
The composers interested in making a proposal should send in their CV, scores and recordings and a presentation of their writing project.
