é en 1969 à Bordeaux, Sylvain Millepied suit ses études musicales au Conservatoire de Région de Bordeaux où il obtient, en flûte traversière et en musique de chambre la Médaille d’Or (1987) et la Médaille d’Honneur de la ville de Bordeaux à l’unanimité (1988). Cette même année, il est finaliste du concours international Darius Milhaud et effectue ses premiers concerts en tant que soliste en Pologne (Varsovie, Cracovie, Zakopane).

He continued his studies in Paris with Maurice Pruvot, later with Robert Pichaureau, a specialist in breath technique for wind instruments, and furthered his training with Alain Marion, Catherine Cantin, Andras Adojan, Samuel Coles and Jean-Pierre Rampal.

Sylvain Millepied won the Maria Canals International Competition in Barcelona in 1994, the Gyorgy Cziffra Foundation Competition in 1995, and was a semi-finalist in the Young Concert Artist Competition in New York in 1996.

He performed as a soloist with Alain Marion at the Auditorium des Halles (Paris) before joining the Proxima Centauri ensemble in 1998.

He plays in a duo with guitarist Jean-Luc Rocchietti (CD ‘Rencontre concertante’, 2000). He has performed with several orchestras and ensembles, including the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, Les Symphonistes d'Aquitaine, the Bordeaux Aquitaine National Orchestra, the Gironde Chamber Orchestra, the Ensemble Des Concertants and the Debussy Trio. He has also collaborated with the ‘Danses Concertantes’ troupe during a series of performances in London and New York.

He performs solo recitals with his flutes, showcasing his virtuosity and expressive range in a repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary music (PACT Festival in Brussels at the Cirque Royal). He has been a guest solo flutist at France Musique (2000) and the BBC in London (2002) and has recorded for RTBF as part of the Ars Musica Festival (2003).

Alongside his activities as an instrumentalist, he has written a musical tale for children entitled Rémi, Julie et les secrets de la musique (Rémi, Julie and the Secrets of Music), an initiatory journey through the music of the world, and composed the accompanying music for Yang Xing Do (an oriental martial art).
