MIXTE ACADEMY

Proxima Centauri and Ensemble Regards are organising a training academy for composers, performers and ensembles who wish to discover or deepen their practice of mixed music, combining instrumental ensembles and electronic devices.

Designed as a laboratory for experimentation, this academy offers a place and time where musicians surrounded by professionals from the world of music can meet, listen to each other, exchange ideas and create together.

Aimed at young musicians nearing the end of their training or professionals wishing to learn about new technologies, the academy focuses on the relationship between performers and composers in a context of sound and musical experimentation.

For this third edition, MIXTE is being organised in partnership with the Conservatoire Pau Béarn Pyrénées and the CERC, fostering a spirit of cooperation across the region.

More than just training, MIXTE helps raise the profile of emerging artists. Throughout the week, concerts are organised in cultural venues across the city of Pau (Library André-Labarrère, Auditorium Les Réparatrices, CERC, outdoor venues, etc.), making MIXTE an academy that is open to the city and focuses on live experiences.

All courses and workshops will be supervised by the musicians of Proxima Centauri, by composers Giulia Lorusso, Juan Arroyo, Christophe Havel and Vincent Trollet, and a guest artist: saxophonist and improviser Yui Sakagoshi.

Content

For composers

Individual classes with supervising composers will allow participants to work on their personal projects, receive personalised advice and feedback, and develop their composition technique.

Composition seminars will address theoretical and practical topics related to composition, such as harmony and timbre, form, orchestration, etc.

Electronic practice workshops will allow participants to discover the tools available for composition and improvisation.

Practical workshops with instrumental trainees will allow composers to work with performers and thus hear their compositions with their collaboration.

For instrumentalists

Improvisation workshops will enable participants to develop their creativity and expressiveness in improvisation.

Electronic music workshops will enable participants to discover techniques for practicing electronic music.

CERC (Centre for musical creation) will open its studios to participants for mixed practice sessions with their tools (editing, mixing, processing, modular synthesizers, etc.).

Interpretation workshops will allow instrumentalists to work with composer trainees and perform their works, as well as works from the repertoire.

External workshops

Three introductory workshops are open to the general public outside the academy: “new technologies”, “new instrumental practices” and “improvisation”. They are supervised by the academy's teaching staff and trainees can register for them as an extra.

Accomodation

Proposé au Lycée Saint Cricq, Pau, du vendredi 3 juillet soir au vendredi 10 juillet matin (9 nuitées). Le Lycée Saint-Cricq de Pau (5 avenue de Nitot) est à 5 minutes à pied du Conservatoire et met à disposition les chambres de son internat :

• rate per night: €11/night/person
• breakfast and meals not included
• bed linen, pillows, toiletries and towels are not provided (mattress cover and pillowcase are provided)
• each room is a single room with its own toilet and shower. Communal kitchen on the same floor.

Accommodation and meals are at the trainee's own expense.

50€ – Masterclasse optionnelle pour les interprètes (2 maximum par personne) : 50€ par personne et par masterclasse. Dans la limite des places disponibles.
